The rankings are based on my observation since the late 70s, what I call the modern era of Formula One racing. An emotional list, this.

  4. Gilles Villeneuve - loony, fast, brilliant
  5. Nigel Mansell - unconventional, brave
  6. Mika Hakkinen - fast, cool
  7. Jacques Villeneuve - fast, brave, flamboyant
  8. Jean Alesi - car control, brilliant
  9. Nelson Piquet - fast, flamboyant

I would like to put Niki Lauda and Jackie Stewart in, but their prime was before I started watching F1 consistently.
