| The 8-Series |
E31 (1991-1998) |
Unfortunately, not one of the most popular cars from modern the BMW range.
The 8-series was introduced in 1991 to replace the ageing 6-series. At that
time, BMW had set its sights on tackling Europe's major Gran Tourers such as
the Merc SC class, the Ferrari Testarossa, the Porsche 928 and the Jag XJR.
Cars in this class come expensive, and that was what the big BMW coupe was.
Expensive. However, it was also a heavy car - and its 5.0litres V12 with
(then) 300bhp was not enough.
